Hiker hounds explore the Krom River ( Kromrivier ) hike

The Krom River hiking trail is a breathtaking trail that follows the course of the Bobbejaan's river through the Limietberg Nature Reserve. The lower reaches of the river are popular for fishing, but that's for another blog post. The complete trail should take close to 5 hours and is best described as an intermediate trail.

There are rock pools teeming with fish and your long awaited trail ends of on a high note with a spectacular waterfall that should be reserved for the far reaches of a tropical jungle somewhere.

Take food, suntan lotion, swimming gear, mask and snorkel.

Couch potatoes love the Elephant's Eye hike

Elephant's Eye hike is a great amateur hike for lazy couch potatoes. For seasoned hikers it's more of a walk, for the potatoes it's a good starting point. The hike is roughly an hour up (I've taken into account the various food and water breaks) and is relatively flat. The only uphill bit is the last stretch, but it's hardly anything to moan about. In essence, give yourself 2 hours maximum for the hike, and another hour for swimming in the Silvermine Dam.

Picnic, tan, swim and float at Silvermine Dam
