Bon Jour! Let's talk about Franschhoek and one if its most popular festivals, Bastille day, which takes places on 14 - 15 July 2012.
The graceful, sophisticated town of Franschhoek is the culinary captial of the Cape Winelands and has its roots steeped in French history. Located in a valley surrounded by vineyards, lavender fields and majestic mountains it's easy to feel like you're in Provence. From gourmet restaurants to art galleries and even the architecture; there's a definite French flair about this quaint town.
Franschhoek is the ideal honeymoon destination - there is just enough buzz in the main street to serve as a distraction if you haven't married for the right reasons. Peppered with art galleries, chocolatiers, antique shops and gourmet cafes, Franschhoek is just perfect for a hedonist.
Annually, Franschhoek celebrates its centuries-old French Huguenot heritage at its Bastille Festival. This is the time of year to bring your red, white and blue regalia, your batons and baguettes and get ready to consume your body weight in fine wines!
Franschhoek is frisky, delightful and the ideal setting for a romantic weekend. There is quite an elite air about the town and you'd fit right in with your "oh darling I don't drink blends" attitude; although anything goes when it's Bastille Day. Franschhoek is a hive of activity on Bastille Day and you can expect spoonfuls of jazz bands, wine tasting, trail runs and mountain biking. You'll have the opportunity of meeting 10 winemakers from the Rhône-Alpes Region in France.
